Student-led community for nontraditional students

A vibrant and inclusive student organization supporting older and nontraditional undergrad students and graduate candidates at San Diego State University through community building, peer support, and student-driven initiatives.

I helped launch The 25+ Aztecs to foster connection and visibility for students returning to college later in life. As Vice President and later Vice President of Marketing & Membership, I led efforts to grow membership by over 150%, develop a consistent visual identity, and produce programs tailored to older students balancing academics, work, and life commitments.

From storytelling campaigns and digital outreach to hiking meetups and pizza-fueled study nights, the 25+ Aztecs became a home base for students often overlooked in traditional student life. Our initiatives encouraged pride, connection, and persistence across SDSU’s diverse returning student community.

25+ Aztecs Make It Happen

To challenge outdated perceptions of nontraditional students, I launched the “25+ Aztecs Make It Happen” campaign—an initiative designed to showcase the talent, resilience, and academic achievements of our members. The campaign featured high-achieving students from a range of majors, backgrounds, and life experiences.

Each featured member was highlighted through custom-designed graphics, personal bios, and short-form storytelling content shared across SDSU channels and our club’s digital platforms. I oversaw every stage of development—from designing the visual identity to managing nominations, and working with nominees to tell their stories.

This campaign helped redefine how the campus viewed returning students—not as “exceptions” but as engaged leaders and scholars. It became a cornerstone of our outreach strategy and set the tone for future club programming centered in visibility and belonging.

Membership Certificates

As Membership Officer, I designed and instituted official Membership Certificates to recognize the contributions and commitment of active members. These certificates served as more than a formality—they were a symbolic affirmation of belonging, achievement, and pride in being a part of a growing community of non-traditional students. Each certificate was personally issued during club meetings and social events, often presented in moments of genuine joy and accomplishment. This initiative helped legitimize the organization, reinforce a culture of recognition, and foster a greater sense of identity and ownership among members.

Each certificate was thoughtfully formatted, printed on high-quality linen cardstock, and hand-signed by club leadership—underscoring attention to detail and a commitment to professionalism in every aspect of the member experience.

Marketing Campaigns

This section showcases branded graphics and digital promotions developed to grow awareness, drive engagement, and elevate the 25+ Aztecs’ presence on campus. Each design—from event banners to social media campaigns—was crafted with intention to reflect the group’s mission, highlight members, and foster community among non-traditional students. The club’s revitalized brand and digital presence contributed to record-setting participation and coverage in SDSU’s student newspaper, The Daily Aztec, for these efforts.

As a founding officer and later VP of Marketing & Membership, I led the development of the club’s visual identity and brand strategy, establishing design standards that positioned 25+ Aztecs as a visible, credible presence in the SDSU student community.
